Forget about the women or men in your life, today is about one love. Huddersfield Town. (p.s I hope you bought your cards from the Card Factory, if not tut tut)
Today is quite simply the biggest game of the season so far and defeat could ensure that hopes of automatic promotion are very slim. Sheffield United currently sit a point above Town in third with a game in hand and if the Blades take advantage of their game in hand coupled with victory tonight, Town could be seven points off automatic promotion.
The Blades will certainly looking for revenge following the 3-0 defeat to Town back in September, a game where we were missing our prolific striker Jordan Rhodes. But after defeat to Stevenage in early November, United went on a six match winning streak and have continued their good form to find themselves currently favourites to go up alongside Charlton Athletic.
Town on the other hand have looked out of sorts ever since the end of the 43 league game unbeaten run to Charlton. Since that defeat Lee Clark’s side have won only four times in 10 games and dropped eight points from winning positions. It certainly looks like we may be throwing away any chance of obtaining automatic promotion this season.
To the team news and well there is nothing much different from my last match preview. Sadly the frost decided to ruin any chances of Leyton Orient hosting our fixture on Saturday so the injury list is largely the same with Gary Roberts and Peter Clarke both out due to hernia issues. Danny Ward though could make his comeback after leaving the field early against Tranmere after pulling up. It is probably too early for Alex Smithies to return in between the sticks so Ian Bennett will start against his old club.
To the Blades and former Town target Ryan Flynn could start if Lee Williamson fails to pass a fitness test, whilst Danny Wilson must decide if on loan Will Hoskins will partner Ched Evans up front or if he sticks with Richard Cresswell. One player we won’t be seeing is James Beattie who serves the last of his three match ban.
Anyway Mr Clark and Huddersfield Town, it is time to step up to the plate or they play-offs await yet again.
